Michael John Ormerod, age 65, of Des Plaines IL, passed away on November 6, 2024. Michael was born on August 10,1959 in Chicago, IL the oldest of two children to Phyllis J. (Pahnke) and John E. Ormerod. He is survived by his sister, Judith Ormerod Assmann and three nephews, Ian, Alec, and Dylan Assmann. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Michael was a force of nature, devoted friend, and a fount of knowledge on many interesting but unrelated topics. The man could fix just about anything and was always up for a good conversation and/or debate. When growing up, he challenged his parents and sister with how quickly he could disassemble something to figure out how it worked and then walked away from the pile of parts! He had a hearty laugh and a lust for life. He never attended college and was self-taught in computer science. He spent most of his professional life as a computer programmer and data specialist; however, he was also known as an extraordinary handyman.

In his later years Michael faced multiple health challenges, which he fought valiantly against. He adopted a vegan lifestyle and ditched his car for a bicycle. Friends and family will miss seeing him out and about cycling all over Des Plaines and beyond. He enjoyed cooking, reading, music, and spending time with friends and animals.

Michael was an atheist and, in accordance with his wishes, there will be no memorial service. If so inclined, donations in honor of Michael’s life can be made to Animal Education and Rescue, PO Box 7343, Libertyville, IL 60048
