A summary of two messages from Charles' widow sent to the MWAA after they'd made contact with her in October, 2019:

"In Georgia Charlie (or Chuck as he was later known) attended and graduated from Peachtree High School. He was on the gymnastics team there, helping them to two consecutive state championships. He was best known in gymnastics for his ability to do what they call the Iron Cross.

After high school he went into the US Navy and served three years as an air traffic controller at NAS Jacksonville, re-upped and spent the next 5 years as a nuclear weapons loader on the USS Independence, seeing action in Grenada and Lebanon.

Later he settled in the little Florida Gulf coast town of Cedar Key and remained for the rest of his life. He was a handyman and could fix almost anything, and about fifteen years ago we moved an old house to the Cedar Key area and he restored it. He started working with stained glass some twelve years ago, and developed what began as a hobby into a full-time project. His non-traditional stained glass pieces, which you have seen on the Fine Art America web site, made him well-known in the international mosaic art community.

He and I were together for more than twenty years."
