Lisa Kay Aniballi (neè Monson), 63, of Quilcene, Washington, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 3, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by friends, family, prayer, love, and song as she left her earthly body to fly free with wild horses in heaven. Lisa was born on November 21, 1958 in Moline, Illinois to Sheila Claire Leskinen (Feeney) and Kenneth Dale Monson. She grew up in both the Quad Cities and Des Plaines, Illinois alongside her brothers, Kenneth Mitchell Monson and Todd Marvin Edward Monson. Lisa was a lover of nature, which was reflected throughout her life and careers. From leading canoe trips in the boundary waters, rock-climbing adventures, long boat ocean journeys, hikes, and treks, to her biggest love - working with horses. Another theme that was woven through her journey was helping others. Through team building, finding sobriety, or healing past traumas, her life’s work was dedicated to putting others before herself. In time, Lisa was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of owning horses, which she used to improve lives by creating Empowerment through Equus. Lisa is survived by her daughter Kristen (Aaron) Roberts, her mother Sheila (Mel) Leskinen, her brothers Ken (Terri) Monson and Todd (Rose) Monson, her grandsons Lincoln Roberts and Riggins Roberts. She also leaves behind her loving dog Haniel, and her two horses Ben and Sweet. She is preceded in death by her father Kenneth (Judy) Monson. A memorial will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 10:00 AM at FRG Community Church, 400 Opatrny Dr, Fox River Grove, IL 60021. A small reception will follow.

I am so saddened to hear of Lisa's passing. I feel fortunate that I was able to spend time with Lisa visitning her at her home in  Port Townsend, Washington with my husband many years ago. She had the most beautiful piece of property on the water and was so happy. I am so, so sad to hear of her struggle with cancer. We will definitely be planting a tree in her honor here in Colorado. The Facebook page for Empowerment Through Equua is fantastic and shows the great work Lisa was able to accomplish through her horses. Rest in Peace Lisa.
