Elizabeth M. "Beth" Jay, age 55, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. She was born October 26, 1959 in Chicago to Mathias and Carolyn (Sonderman) Herriges. On April 19, 1980, Beth married Richard C. Jay Sr. in Des Plaines. Formerly of Des Plaines and a resident of McHenry for over 36 years, Beth was educated in the nursing field at the College of Lake County. She was employed as a registered nurse for her entire professional career. Beth worked first at Sherman Hospital in Elgin, and more recently was employed by the McHenry County Sheriffs Office at the McHenry County Government Center. A loving wife and mother, Beth was devoted to raising and caring for her family. She loved being a grandmother and cherished spending time with her grandchildren. She treasured being able to take trips and enjoy vacations with her family. Survivors include her husband of 35 years, Rick; five children, Rich (Emily) Jay, Shawna (Jim) Ryan, Vanessa (Kyle) Retek, Stephani Jay and Nathan Inguagiato; six grandchildren, Haydn, Karalynn, Addison, Nolan, Michael, and Angelo; her mother, Carolyn Herriges; her sister, Laura Lower; and four brothers, Leonard (Heather) Herriges, Andrew (Mirka) Herriges, Daniel Herriges, and Michael (Carolyn) Herriges; her mother-in-law, Rita Jay; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father on August 1, 1997. Friends may visit with her family from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at St. Mary's Church, 1401 N. Richmond Road, McHenry, IL 60050. The memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be in The Church of Holy Apostles Cemetery, McHenry at a later date.
